English Summary: Battered by the strongest head and side winds I have experienced, I took shelter from the flying ice in old stone farming huts for the afternoon and following night.

暖かいポソフ町とセルジュックさんの無料レストランを後にし、次の3時間近くは必死に北風と戦いました。今まで経験したことない強さで、アイスバーンの道路に少なくとも2回地面にバタンと倒されました。

次々と車が通りかかって、前に止まって、僕を進まないように説得しようとしました。しかし、車が峠を通れるんだったら、僕もできる！と僕が思って、5.4km/hというありえない遅さで進みました。

上まで後半部くらいのところでセルジュックさんのお父さんが4区で現れました。

「上は無理だよ！ポソフに戻って、明日やってみない？」とセルジュックお父さんが風の音の上に叫びました。

僕にそのことを伝えるために30分ほど危ない道を運転したわけですよ。すごいよ、トルコ人は。

「本当にありがたいですが、僕はもうちょっと行ってみます。」と僕が答えました。

これを聞いて、セルジュックお父さんは大きな笑顔をして、僕と強く握手をしました。言葉は必要な刈った。「がんばれ！」という意味でした。

願っていたのは、今日峠を越して、向こうのどこかでテントを張って寝ることでした。しかし風が高度が重なることにつれて強くなって、横から台風のような風が雹の大きさの氷をふっ飛ばして、昼1時になったら、もう進むことが不可能になりました。

しかも、昼ご飯はまだ食べていないし、今のまま自転車を降りて、自転車を押して進んでもエネルギーが持たなかった状態でした。そこで、右側に屋根みたいなものがみえてきた。家だ！こんな高いところ（標高2,400m)に家があるなんて！

重ねた石でできた小屋がいくつか道路から50mから離れていました。その間にところに太股まで沈む深さの雪がありました。しかしその風から潜まないと何も食べられない・・・

カバンを全部はずして、3回に分けてカバンそして自転車を雪と風と戦いながら小屋に運びました。しないと自転車が深い雪に沈んでしまって進めませんでした。

小屋は夏農業用の小屋で、青ドアーをした小屋にベッドのような木でできた台があって、ここで昼ご飯を食べました。

お昼を済ませたら、時間はもう2時半でした。トルコの時間では、後わずか2時間で真っ暗になります。風はいまだに暴風で、小屋に一泊することにしました。今は夜6時半で、中の気温はマイナス7度です。冷凍庫にいるような感じです。

しかし、本当のことをいいますと、大好きですよ、この寒さ。この環境。この世界。ずっと住みたいわけではありませんが、普通の日常生活からもっとも離れた状態ですから、すごく面白いんです。

そして気温が寒くても、高カロリの食べ物をたくさん食べて、「体の中の暖房」が燃えつづけることをensureすれば、体が暖かい。もちろん服は大切ですが。ダウンジャケットは最高です（お母さん、日本から送ってくれてありがとう！）。

では、夜7時がまわりました、お寝々時間です。風がやっと静かになって、近くにあるBTCパイプライン石油パンプステーションのやさしい光が屋根の穴から小屋に刺しています。暖かい寝袋に入る時間だ～。

Man, it looks sooooooo cold!! How do you manage to keep warm once you stop cycling? You will have to be careful you don't get frost bite on the exposed bits of flesh like your nose.

Wow! What's your elevation? Will you be going DOWN in altitude soon? It looks like Colorado right now. Of course, it doesn't compare. I'm sleeping in a warm house, not a tent or unheated shack. Take care of yourself.

Aunty Jenny, the trick to keeping warm lies in a thick down jacket and wrapping yourself in a down sleeping bag when you're sitting down cooking etc. If you do this, and make sure that you're never hungry (must keep eating), you're always toasty as.

Jim, the altitude should drop in another 300km or so. Until then it's chilly chilly!

The photos make me cold so it must be pretty chilly for you!

What altitude were you at? What is the "Ensure" reference about in the Japanese text? You are definitely looking like a mountain man now!

Kirk, that was about 2,200m. The 'ensure' ın the Japanese was refering to ensuring that I keep feeding my body carbs in order to keep the 'inner fıre' stoked. So long as I never go hungry, I seldom actually feel cold. The reason that the English word is there, is because I couldn't remember the Japanese…

Aunty Les, like I keep telling people, apart from my cheeks and any other exposed parts, my body is seldom cold. Just gotta keep the 'inner pot belly' stoked up with stuff to burn (carbs, fat) and I'm all toasty.
