Pre-Departure (67 days): new video – the daily slog

Another zoomy video for you. This one is of my daily commute to work. I live at about 10m above sea level, and work is at 350m. It’s a big hill, but after a few weeks it’s a no brainer. The total distance is 12km. These videos were shot on a small Sony Cybershot P-8 digital camera attached to an aluminium tube that is attached to my rear carrier. Makes for some interesting footage.

The editing was done on the Windows XP stock standard Windows MovieMaker. All you really need for simple wee vids. The videos have been uploaded to Google Videos, which means that all I need to do is copy and paste the embed code in my blog, and I can have the videos play on my website. This is great coz it means that not only do I not need to use up my webserver account space with videos, but it also means that there’s no chance of exceeding the bandwidth limit I have on this account (5GB).

Enjoy.

Update: It’s now 11pm, and I still haven’t got this google video embedding things worked out. For the meantime, I’ve just uploaded the video to my server, so it can be downloaded by clicking on this link (right-click and save as):

    Great video, fantastic looking bike.

You ought to enter the video footage into the 'Turner Prize'. I'm sure it'd do very well.

Look forward to seeing you set off on your big journey.

    All the best

    Simon,

Thanks for the comments. I personally like the other video better, but that probably has something to do with James Brown being a legend.

So entering footage into the Turner Prize is that easy? I had a look online, and couldn't find anywhere that mentioned how to enter…

I really liked both videos. Very fun and well done. Its amazing how a lot of the time you are moving along faster than the cars. Could you post pics of your camera setup on the bike as well? I'd like to see it.

    Kirk,

Thanks. I get home from work faster than any of my workmates in their cars. If a person has the physical ability to be able to bike to work in Japan, they should. Getting to work takes a wee bit longer though 😉

I have uploaded the pics of the setup I have for taking the vids. I am thinking of making some more permanent 'quick release' type attachments so that I can quickly attach the pole to different parts of the bike to get some more interesting footage. If I can take some footage like this everynow and then during the trip, I should be able to make an interesting montage at the end of it all.
