It has been a long time coming, but today I got this email from Guinness World Records in New York:
All fine here and I have good news!
The record has been accepted and this is the text to appear in the certificate, but let me know if there is amendment to make (I just received an email from the RMT department):
“The longest journey by skateboard was 12,159 km (7,555miles) and was completed by Rob Thomson (New Zealand) starting in Lausanne, Switzerland on 28 June 2007 and finishing in Shanghai, China, on 28 September 2008.”
Check the dates and so…
Let me know! And congrats!
So there you have it.
Just goes to proove that even every-day people can get world records too.
I’ll hold back any other comments until I have the actual certificate in my hands…but there you go.
Icing on the cake.
From a girl who had a hand in setting the last record, to the man who single handedly – and both footedly (!) did it all by himself this time around, and in such amazing style: congratulations Rob! You have my best regards and I'm all smiles for you here.
The certificate does not make the man – the certificate merely is fortunate enough to supplement the unshakeable impression the man made on the worlds he pushed through. You changed things, Rob.
Now go and have a frickin' beer!
Congratulations Rob! Take a picture of your certificate for us when you get it!
At last, recognition of th emiles and imls and…adventures. Well done mate.
Now, go and have several beers…
Woohoo!!! Congratulations! Well deserved!
Congrats. This is awesome especially as you did not set out to achieve this but merely to have fun. Well deserved.
Top job! You are an inspiration!
Yeeeeeeehaaawwww!!!! You are so friggin awesome. Congrats.
Well done. Now you can bet blokes at the pub about how far and who did the world's longest distance on a skate board—and win every time with bullet proof evidence.
I'll hoist a malt beverage recovery drink to you and your achievement.
Fantastic news – do they send you any free Guinness?
Congratulations! As I said before, you're my hero, and a major inspiration. I second the comments about having a beer.
Awesome news Rob.
Congratulations and congratulations again.
Be sure to show us a picture of the certificate when you get it in hand.
Icing on the cake indeed!
Never thought I would personally know a Guiness World Record holder.
Inspirational. Congrats mate.
Thank you for including us on your journey. And please post a photo of the certificate once you have it.
What a wonderful thing!
Just a quick link here to a cool time lapse video of a guy who walked across China.
At first I thought it was you for some reason!
Hope all is well.
Great news, Rob. I suppose that means you'll be in the 2010 published Guinness book of records.
Looking forward to seeing you sometime again in Japan.
A HUGE congratulations Rob !!! Wonderful to hear that you will go down in history for all your amazing efforts!
Hard to believe that it's over 2 years since I saw you in Milan on the recumbent and during that time I have been in Japan for 2 years (APU Admissions Office!) and have now returned to Europe to start a Master's in Germany this autumn.
Anyway, I'm sure they will throw that scholarship at you, so good luck in your Master's studies too, back in Japan!
