First of all a massive thanks to all the folks at Honey Island Baptist Church, especially Pastor Mel, for putting me up last night. It was great to attend your service this morning.

The church service kept me out of the rain this morning. A good thing, as it really rained hard. By 1pm I was away however, and the skies were looking good. A smooth road paved the way to Dolen, where I just made it in time for the evening service at the Dolen Baptist Church.

All along the route, I began to feel the slow change from lowland to the wide open plains that I am looking forward to so much in west Texas.

Old house in Dolen, Texas, USA

Decay of old ranches, forests cleared for rearing cattle.

Tonight I am staying with Warren and Elizabeth Henley tonight, a lovely couple from the church.

Rob: My name is Rick Neal and I am 44 years old. My family and I live near Galveston but I was raised in Dolen. When you were almost to Warren and Liz's home you may have noticed a big black steel fish hanging at the entrance of our Ranch. Warren and Liz have been our neighbors for years. I'm glad they were able to give you a helping hand. They are some of the best people Texas has to offer. Sorry I missed you. You must have really made an impression on Liz. She thinks very highly of you. Keep up you cause. Stay Healty and may God continue to bless you more and more. Rick

Travelling through America may not be high on the adventure stakes but you'll be able to get a thorough soaking in contact with people!

Hey Rob!! I'm back now from my 8-month adventure (ran out of $ and need to finish thesis) so am able to keep an eye on your progress instead. So now China by skateboard!! wow.. just hope you make it to LAX ontime. goodluck.

My ichy feet (or should I say legs) continue after my N Africa/Middle East bike-riding zones.. so I decided to bike up to Whangarei (from Christchuch) the other week. I pulled it out in about 10 days which was all pretty good fun.

People say I'm mad and then I tell them about you… ENJOYOURSELF!! kees
