Wow. Talk about zoom zoom. A beautiful south easterly wind blew me all the way to South Bay today. A massive 55 mile plus day. It was not all happy days however. Tailwinds can have their disadvantages. Since I was traveling at the same speed as the wind, it was as though I was standing in full direct sunlight, with no breeze to cool me off. Actually, make that running vigorously on the spot in the direct sun with no breeze. I had my own little pocket of superheated air around me. I have never traveled with my shirt off, but today was an exception. It was sweltering. To make matters even more exciting, this 50-odd mile stretch of road featured very little in the way of facilities.

Mega hot day on Highway 27 between Hialeah Gardens and South Bay, Florida, USA

Oh and you may be interested to hear that I met a person who speaks English today…why might that be so interesting? Because all the other people I met yesterday and today only spoke Spanish. Rather strange. You’d think if you were working in a foreign country, you’d learn the language…apparently not.

Lots of sugar plantations around this area between Hialeah Gardens and South Bay. The Everglades have been drained and the lowlands have been put to work as agricultural gold fields.

If you knew English (and Spanish, Dutch Portuguese) history you would know that it is quite usual for people to go to a foreign country and not bother to learn the local language!

Yeah, Australia can be boring sometimes, even at the East coast in the middle of the forest! But I'm preparing for the outback right now – that will be hard and I guess not too much change in scenery either 😛
