English Summary:: I had a day while waiting for my train to Turkmenbasi to ride around Ashgabat – the canvas for the President. Statues of him are everywhere. His books (he writes one every year, and citizens are supposed memorise them) are enthroned on high. What a crazy, crazy place.
トルクメニスタンの首都であるアシュガバットに着いたのは朝10時でした。列車は3時間遅れていました。中央アジアはそんなもんです。
カスピ海のフェリーターミナルがあるトルクメンバシ町(Turkmenbasi)に行くには、また今日の夜に列車に乗りました。アシュガバットをでるのは夜6時半で、トルクメンバシに着くのは明日の朝10時の予定。切符の値段は40,000マナット（200円）。相当安いです。
というわけで、トルクメンバシ行きの列車が出発するまで、一日近くありました。自転車でアシュガバットをうろうろすることにしました。面白いですよ、この町。
というか、トルクメニスタンの大統領が面白いんです。どこにも、彼の像あるのです。そして政府が作った建物、公園（利用者なし）、広場などが圧倒的に多い。
Is that the statue that turns around with the sun?
Carl, the one that rotates with the sun is atop the Arch of Nuetrality. I was so blown away by the glory of it (it is polished gold) that I forgot to take a picture. It is quite definitely worth travelling all the way to Turkmenistan to see it though. Thoroughly reccommended.
Yeah but I heard it was broken and not all that big either, bit like going to copenhagn to see the little mermaid and thinking "blimey she's definatley little!"
We're aiming to been down in the stan's next year in a mobile vagrant sort of way.
So life's all gravy after you've managed the central bit? Keep going and keep yourself out of bother.
