BIG NEWS!

You never have to visit the 14degrees website ever again!
(Unless you want to make comments, that is :-))

Keeping up on the latest news from the 14degrees action has never been easier with a brand new option of subscribing to the blog. If you take a look at the front page, you’ll see on the right the new option to subscribe to the 14degrees blog. Or you can subscribe right now by clicking on this link (a pop-up window will appear with a place to type your email).

For readers accustomed with feeds, you can follow the links at the very bottom of this page to add the 14degrees blog to your online feedreader, or use your feedreader software.

What does all this mean?

If you subscribe, you will receive emails in your mailbox each time I post new updates. No new content, no email. You’ll get all the new content that appears on the website (full photos and text), with no need to access the website at all.

How do I subscribe?

When a you, dear reader, type your email into the form on the front page or in the convenient popup window here, you will begin the two-step process of subscribing to the 14degrees blog.

  • STEP ONE: Type your email into the box (and enter any security text when prompted). You will be sent a confirmation email to your inbox.
  • STEP TWO: Go to your email inbox and click on the link in the email to activate your subscription.

I won’t get spammed or anything will I?

No. It is safe and fun. I am using Feedburner, one of the major blog subscription management sites on the internet to manage subscriptions to the 14degrees blog. They are already handling over half a million blogs.

I personally am subscribed to two blogs via Feedburner, and have had no issues. It is very convenient.

Now I can’t finish without thanking the person who has made this all possible. Neil is a past workmate, and he is the one who performed the neccessary surgery on my website to get the RSS feed going (it was down for a long time). Big thanks to you Neil.

Does this mean post cards are outdated?

Lots of postcards in Makarska, Croatia

I hope so.

Is this a joke Rob? I tried doing as per instructions and all I keep getting is the same window over and over again asking me to type in the letters on the screen!. After about the 6th time I gave up.

Aunty Les, no joke. The security code is case sensitive, so be sure to type any capital letters and small letters as they are.

i like the way as it is, actually 🙁 in fact it'd be cool if you could enable us to submit pics from our side (ratrher than sending you a link) that would be awesome – so that i can send you updates on my bent bike building for example… some would be sending their travel pics or family pics etc

Good for you, Rob. That's a great idea.

Personally I'll pass on the e-mail version. Last thing I need is more frequent reminders of how big my (un-replied) inbox is, and I'd need to go there to see how you're doing. Plus it'd turn the process into a duty rather than a voluntary thing, for me.

And you commenters are a big part of it, did you know?! It's awesome seeing how other people interact with the same material, and also seeing old friends or people I've met at some point popping up here and there.

Ramble ramble. So yeah – great idea! But I'll stick with this. Hope you don't get less comments as a result of the new option.

Lee, if a post is moving enough to comment on, I am sure people will follow the links in the email version to the original post to post a comment. It is more a feature for people who are watching numerous blogs. Keeping up on more than four or five blogs can be time consuming!

Hmmm. Or perhaps that is the point. Never in history perhaps has procrastination been more fun… 🙂

Yay for RSS feeds! I have all my blogs on them, and I was a bit gutted that I couldn't access this one so easily. Now I can be lazy and still keep up-to-date. Good stuff.

BTW: Since I last checked, the FEEDBURNER counter jumped from 3 to 23! Seems many have been waiting for exactly that feature 🙂

Neil still performing his magic eh! This options may suit a lot more people so I hope you get more traffic Rob.

    Keep on keeping on!
