I have been very slow in linking to these websites that I frequently visit for inspiration for my own adventures. Check these pages out – they are full of great photos, great stories. Links galore

Adventure links

I have installed the Photo Stitch software that came with my camera onto this computer, and have put together a few panorama photos. They give the best idea yet of the kind of terrain I covered in Kyrgyzstan and recently through the Pamirs in Tajikistan. Enjoy. Click on the photos […]

Day 98 – Panoramas!

Right, so I am ok. No need to send out any search teams. I am safely in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan. Highlights of the last month: Hard, hard spewing, still while a day from civilization. Visa expires even when I still have 500km to cycle to a place where […]

Yeah, that was a mind blowing mission…

English Summary: After an epic 24 hour bus ride, I am now in Dushanbe. So far I have been interested in only one thing. Food. And lots of it. Cereal, bread, Chinese, chicken shishkebabs…all soooooo gooooooood.

Day 91 – Arrival in Dushanbe(English Summary)

I rolled into Khorog feeling very weary, but went straight to OVIR (police office) with the letter from the Ishkashim Police regarding the lost camera incident and my need for a visa extension. As directed by the Ishkashim Police manager, I asked for Mr, Anvar. Obviously the manager of Ishkashim […]

Day 89 – Garmchasma to Khorog

English Summary: At the checkpoint just after Garmchaasma, the police stopped me and gave me the good news that my camera had been found. Can you believe it, it was that nice son of the guest house owner that had stolen it. The detective was nice enough to drive all […]

Day 88 – Camera is found! (English Summary)

I had my doubts about the $300. They were confirmed today when I was told through an interpreter that the detective could not find anyone to come up with $300 to give to me as a guarantee for finding the camera. Considering I had to pay $30 for petrol to […]

Day 87 – From Ishkashim to Garmchasma

English Summary: The police beat up two guys last night on suspision of stealing my camera. They didn’t find the camera, so have decided to give me $300 as a guarantee until they find it. Once they find it, they will send it to me. Once I receive the camera, […]

Day 86 – Back to Ishkahim via Bibi Fatima Hot ...

You really must try this some time. The whole ‘I-do-not-know-how-to-ask-even-a-simple-question-therefore-are-living-in-a-storybook-where-everything-is-revealed-in-small-bits-over-a-long-period-of-time’ thing. Today has been one of those days. I arrive at the police station ready to get my police report regarding the loss of my camera (for my insurance company) and then leave on my bike towards Khorog. However, it […]

Day 85 – WAKHAN VALEY: Back to Warang

Lazy day listening to MP3 recordings of sermons at The Meeting House. This is a Christian church that impresses me most by its primary mission: To give as many people as possible the opportunity to say no to the message of Jesus. Or yes. That statement is in stark contrast to many other Christian […]

Day 84 – WAKHAN VALLEY: In Ishkashim

The owner of the guesthouse I stayed in the last two days and where my camera went missing continued to be extremely apologetic this morning. He even offered me his camera as a replacement. It was only marginally better than the point and shoot film camera that I bought at […]

Day 82 – WAKHAN VALLEY: From Warang to Shitkhraw

Even though Warang is only 30km from Langar, I knew I was only going to do that distance right from the start today. If this was anywhere but the Wakhan Valley, I probably could have stayed in Langar, but my craving for some variation in my diet drove me here. […]

English Summary: Buying up large for the six or so days it may take to get to the next town with food. First along the Pamir Highway, and then down to the Wakhan Valley. Apparently the road is in good condition in the Wakhan Valley.
